Figuring Out Which Gardening Tools for Your Project
As you learn how to be a gardener you are going to learn about a lot of different gardening tools that are all designed to save you time and make your garden better. Of course there is no rule that says you need to buy ever tool ever invented. Start small with a collection of basic tools and then let yourself work your way up to the bigger and more impressive tools that are being sold. Simple human strength is usually all that is really needed to accomplish most gardening tasks. All you really need is your hands and arms if you want to move dirt and plants from point A to point B. Of course, at the same time, you can use tools to help save time and to protect your body from too much wear and tear. These gardening tools have proved to be very popular.
If you are going to be planting a big garden you will have to till the soil. This means that you need to stir the soil so that air can move through it freely and easily. Some gardeners hire professional tillers to help them with this task. Some gardeners prefer to do the work themselves so they rent a roto tiller. You might consider buying your own tiller if you plan on working with large patches of land often. Just make sure that you have a thorough working knowledge of how to use that tiller before you turn it loose in your garden. If you don't know what you are doing you could really make a mess!
Every gardener will be able to find use for a pitchfork—even if the garden plot is very small! A pitchfork is, basically, a large scale trowel or spade (it does the same work, it just does more of it). You can use your pitchfork to turn your soil around, increase the oxygen flow to that soil and move your compost around. Compost needs to be turned as it breaks down and decomposes—you will need to have a pitchfork to help you with the turning. If you don't turn your compost pile regularly it will just harden up and you won't get any use out of it.
You also need a wovel. Wovels come with long handles and short handles. Wovels are basically shovels with rounded points. Most gardeners opt for the wovel with the short handle because it aids in their balance while wovels with long handles do not.
People use wovels for hole digging. When you want to transport a plant, dig it up using your wovel: the rounded tip keeps it from getting tangled in root systems or accidentally damaging the root bulb of the plant. They are sometimes used for patting down the earth during the plant relocation process. Many people find gardening to be a good hobby (some even make a living doing it). The more you learn about gardening the more you will want to purchase the tools being sold at your local plant store or gardening department. Before you go all out and purchase every tool you come across, start with the basics. The more time you spend working with your plants the more you will start to learn the difference between the tools you use and the tools you wish you needed to use.advice from abed
